OH WONDER HIGH ON HUMANS

Oh Wonder continue to cement their reputation as creators of charismatic, catchy and insightful indie-pop with colourful single ‘High On Humans’, which accompanies ‘My Friends’ and title-track ‘Ultralife’, from their soon-to-be-released second album. ‘High On Humans’ is undoubtedly a hit. It not only characterfully portrays the everyday experience of connecting with people, whether that be in person, over the Internet or via others, but also how that can lead to whole new opportunities and feelings. The track hitches of that hook-heavy chorus where Josephine Vander Gucht and Anthony West join together vocally for that integral lyric, “I’m getting high on humans.” The repeated proclamation set against a back-drop of joyous guitars, bouncing keys and dance-inducing percussion. The track now also has a mesmeric music video, directed by the duo’s friend Grow Up, who they asked “to create a video concerning a group of strangers looking for human connection. It was also an opportunity to play out some of our strange and secret fantasies.” Watching the video, you probably wouldn’t expect these hidden wishes to be bathing in a spaghetti hoops, but in a way, that’s what we love about Oh Wonder, the unexpected and overall fun nature of their work. We seriously can’t wait to fill our speakers with Ultralife on July 14th. - HT
